“ Saving is always one of the most important goals, so it is important to try to start the year in the best way possible and, above all, set a savings goal. That is the first tip : analyze and know how much and for what we want to save ,” said Carlos Flores, financial advisor at Condusef Morelos.
He stressed that it is important to analyze our income and expenses , and that from this difference we have a capacity that serves as a margin to define a savings goal. It is essential to make a written budget, and now that the minimum wage will bring an increase , also define a specific percentage to save constantly.
“ It is suggested that a minimum of 3 percent of our income be set aside, either weekly, biweekly or monthly , and that it be automatically saved for savings, and that it become a constant habit .”
During these days that continue the winter holidays and the end of year festivities, as well as Three Kings Day, it is suggested to avoid excessive use of credit cards to prevent future expenses .
“ It is important not to get into too much debt, especially to avoid using credit cards, which make us drag debts and only focus on paying them . The idea is to reverse the trend known as the January slope, which sometimes lasts until March and even April .”
Carlos Flores mentioned that it is also important to set a goal for what the savings will be used for , and not just save for the sake of saving; whether it is for a vacation , to give a down payment for the acquisition of a good or even that this can be used to pay for tuition, home or car repairs , since it is also a motivation to continue saving.
