Nintendo finally reveals its new console: Nintendo Switch 2

This new version of the Nintendo Switch shows improvements at the hardware level, is backwards compatible and so far it is only known that it will be released sometime in 2025.

The day that all gamers have been waiting for has finally arrived. Nintendo has finally revealed the successor to its console: the Nintendo Switch 2 , a device with hardware improvements such as a larger screen, a new, larger version of the Joy-Con controllers, and a new color.

The controls, unlike the previous version that slid from top to bottom, attach magnetically to the console, and it also has a new base with a more rounded design and greater reach to fold almost completely horizontally. The exact release date has not been published.

This is a continuation of the Nintendo Switch. On the top there are the power and volume buttons, the slot for the cartridges and headphones, as well as a new USB-C port. In addition to the fact that the Joy-Con will have a new size, in the video they are positioned in a way that they can be used as a computer mouse.

This feature had already been widely rumored, due to leaks that pointed to the integration of a new button.

At the software level, the only thing that was shown running was what would be a new Mario Kart game, and the company explained that it will be a backwards compatible device, meaning it will accept games from the first Nintendo Switch in both physical and digital formats. However, it also explained that there will be "some games" from Nintendo Switch that might not be compatible, but it didn't say which ones.

So far, it is known that the console will be launched sometime in 2025 and the company confirmed that on April 2 it will have a live broadcast to show more details about its new device.

The company announced that there will be experiences to try out the console in different locations around the world. So far, those in the United States (New York, Los Angeles and Dallas) and Spain (Madrid) have been announced. According to various leaks, the components of this device are expected to make it as powerful as a PlayStation 4, but with the advantage of being a gadget that can be used both connected to a television and as a portable device.
