WhatsApp will stop working on these phones in 2025

The messaging app is updated year after year, which means that some devices become obsolete for its operation.

It seems like 2024 has flown by, with just a few hours to go before it ends. The date is approaching when WhatsApp will stop providing support on some devices in 2025. Like any other app, the messaging app is updated and with it, older devices become obsolete without being able to use it.

WhatsApp currently recommends and supports the following devices:

• Phones with Android OS 5.0 and later versions
• Phones with iOS 12 and later

However, starting February 23, 2025 , only devices running iOS 14.1 and later will be supported.

Expansión consulted WhatsApp, who said that there is no official list of devices that will lose support for the app. However, regardless of what your device is, you can check what operating system you have to find out if it is or will be compatible with the app.

On Android

1. Open the Settings app on your device.
2. Near the bottom, tap About phone.
3. Then go to the Android Version section.
4. At this point, in addition to knowing the Android version of your device, you can find out if there is an update available.

On iOS

1. For iPhone users go to Settings
2. Once inside you have to select the General section and then Information
3. The iOS Version section will appear on the screen.

What happens if my operating system is no longer supported?

Before your operating system is no longer supported, you will receive a notification on WhatsApp and be reminded several times to update it. You will also be reminded if your device or system is no longer supported. If the update is no longer available, the app will simply no longer be supported on your device.
